Tom O’Gorman and TOMO Racing look to build on success from COTA going into the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Virginia at VIRginia International Raceway, April 27-29.
The 2018 Pirelli World Challenge season started strong for Tom O’Gorman, taking home a 2nd place podium and 1st place victory in Rounds 1 & 2 of the Touring Car A Championship. Now, he and the TOMO Racing team enter Rounds 3 & 4 at VIRginia International Raceway ready to continue their bid for the Drivers and Team Championships, and Manufacturer title for Honda.
“Nothing is more motivating than starting the season with a double podium,” O’Gorman tells. “You know you’re in the hunt and it gives you confidence for the rest of the season, rather than playing catch up. We also learned a lot about the dynamic of this TCA field, and how our car will race in this diverse class.”
O’Gorman has support from RealTime Racing for 2018, both trackside and between races. In addition to a two-car effort in TCR running Honda Civic Type R TCRs, RealTime Racing is assisting with transportation, maintenance, and preparation for the #94 TOMO Racing Civic Si. O’Gorman adds, “We knew RealTime would add immense value to our program this year, but they’ve even exceeded our expectations – a lot goes into preparing and maintaining these cars between events, and the years of knowledge RealTime offers, especially with these FWD Touring Car Hondas, paired with technical support from Honda Performance Development, Carbotech Brakes, fifteen52, and Eibach will make our Civic Si program even stronger.”
Away from the PWC paddock, O’Gorman has begun his season as the Lead Coach for SCCA Track Night In America, an experiential program from the Sports Car Club of America where enthusiasts can enjoy a weeknight driving their vehicle on a racetrack. The program began in 2015 and has grown to offer nearly 120 events at 30 tracks nationwide through the summer months. “It truly never gets old getting new people hooked on driving on track,” says O’Gorman.” I’m lucky to be able to do it as my job 5-6 events a month. Even better, we’re inviting everyone in the vicinity of a World Challenge race this year who has been to a Track Night event to come out and be a part of the race weekend. I got my start 11 years ago doing grassroots events with SCCA and fell down the slippery slope, so I’m excited to share that experience with new drivers now.” Visit tracknightinamerica.com for more information and to find an event.
The Pirelli World Challenge GP of Virginia takes place this weekend, April 27-29th, with nearly 100 entries set to take to the track across 4 categories. O’Gorman will battle 13 TCA cars in his #94 GRIDLIFE / SCCA Track Night In America Honda Civic Si. Live timing is available for each sessions, with live streaming coverage of both races, all on world-challenge.com.
